I subscribed awhile back to Classic Elite Yarns‘ weekly webletter, which always includes a nifty free pattern for a knitted item.
Could be anything from an accessory to a sweater, but the patterns are almost
always interesting and well worth being snaffled up for my burgeoning “Keepers” file.
I really enjoy this newsletter, so I thought I’d share the latest pattern. It’s called “Cabled Fingerless Mitts in Lush” (“Lush” being the yarn, for those grammatically anal-retentive folk who, like me, might tend to wonder about a possible grammar error until finally the light bulb goes on. Duh. Or maybe I just need a few infusions of high-test caffeine).

Being basically a fool for cables in a pattern, I fell in love just imagining how cosy these wrist-warmers would be, and what wonderful gifts they’d make. But I likely won’t be knitting them for myself anytime soon.
You see, I have a problem. I suffer from what I call Frozen Fingertip Syndrome.
Remember the saying, “Cold hands, warm heart”? Well, my heart must be close to the boiling point, because my fingers are nearly always cold and purplish in colour. Well, maybe not in high summer, but at any other time of the year when these cute little wristwarmers might be useful? Big time, man.
Even sitting at my computer (which admittedly I do a lot of), the fingertips on my mouse-hand get so cold and stiff that I have to find my DH, Mr. Human Furnace, and warm them under his shirt. Not so pleasant for him, perhaps, but oh, it’s sheer heaven for my frozen right hand!
You know those rubber thumbs that bank tellers used to use to count bills so their thumbs wouldn’t slip? Well, I’ve decided that what I need is an entire set of knitted fingers and thumbs, and I’d finally be comfortable, at least outdoors (somehow I don’t think they’d work for typing). And perhaps with an i-cord to connect them all together, the way little kids’ mittens are attached to each other so they don’t get lost.
So, if anyone out there in the ethers has designed a mittless-fingers pattern for those of us with Frozen Fingertip Syndrome, I wanna know about it! In the meantime, I’m saving this pattern because right off the top of my head, I can think of a half-dozen gals who would love to wear these mitts.
Happy knitting,
Susannah
