Grampa, by scent

Plumber and tinsmith by trade
but artist in his soul,
faded brown snapshots
proclaim this lover of life:
laughing eyes, and quick,
devil-may-care grin
to steal your heart.

Charming and improvident,
country thespian,
king of the village stage -
and fried bread and
gravy for dinner.

“Art doesn’t put
food on the table,”
my grandma used to say.

Paean to beauty

Earlier today, as I was touring the Etsy website (for those of you who aren’t handicraft aficionados, Etsy is a kind of online hand-craft cottage-industry mecca) in my search for yarn to drool over, I came across a small business called “Lacewood,” the owner of which sells yarns hand-spun from angora bunnies that she raises herself. I followed this lady to her Facebook page, where I spent a very enjoyable few minutes looking at photos of her two home-raised angora rabbits, who she frankly admits are possibly the most spoiled and most loved bunnies on the planet.

The New Year’s Resolution

My new Kobo ereader, which I bought just prior to The Operation, triggered a reading binge more intense than anything I’ve done in the past; and this statement comes from a confirmed reading addict who can sit motionless in front of a book for days at a time.

Daytime…nighttime…wee hours of the morning…it made no difference.  For three months I could be found either sitting or lying down, staring at my little black box as though it held the secrets of the universe.  Of course I couldn’t move around much anyway (The Operation, you know….), so I took complete advantage of the recovery period to indulge myself.  It’s so delightful to be able to read lying on your back in bed at night, without a heavy book banging you on the beak because you’ve nodded off and let it slip. Werewoman

Ah, yes, the “Werewoman Days”; I remember them well, if not fondly.  My only comment is that I’m happy they’re long behind me:


I breathe a long sigh of relief as I realize that once again I’ve returned from teetering at the edge of the pit, back by the skin of my teeth to normalcy, reasonably sane, not having committed mayhem or turned my nearest and dearest against me…at least not forever.
